The Story Behind EightLabs
Every brand has a story. Ours didn't come from a boardroom, a branding agency, or some perfectly planned strategy. It started in a classroom, a late-night conversation, and a number that's meant something to me for years.
EightLabs is a marketing agency focused on building modern digital experiences. From high-performing websites to SEO strategies and video and graphic content, everything we do is centered around helping brands grow online in a real, measurable way. But the name itself goes a bit deeper than just sounding clean.
Where the name comes from
The "eight" comes from something personal. I was born on December 8th, and the number has always stuck with me. It's been my number in hockey, part of my usernames, and something I've always associated with myself. It wasn't chosen for branding reasons — it was just natural.
The "labs" came later, and it reflects how we approach our work. We don't just build things once and leave them. We test, iterate, improve, and refine. Every project is treated like an experiment where we're constantly pushing for better results, better performance, and better design.
Before EightLabs
Before EightLabs, there was an earlier version of this idea.
Over five years ago, I started something called GenX Dev. It was also centered around web development, and while we built projects and experimented a lot, it never really turned into something client-facing. It was more of a learning phase than a business, but it laid the foundation for everything that came after. You can still see a trace of it here: x.com/_genxdev
The conversation that changed things
The idea for EightLabs really took shape when my friend Mohammed — who is now my business partner — asked me about web development while we were in class. At the time, I was only building for myself, and occasionally for friends and family. Nothing serious.
That conversation changed things.
He suggested that instead of keeping it small, we should start offering it to more people. That same night, we started planning. What began as a simple idea quickly turned into hours of brainstorming. We went through name after name, checking domains, looking for something that felt right.
Everything we liked was taken.
At some point during all of this, "EightLabs" kept coming back into my mind. It wasn't overcomplicated, it wasn't forced, and it actually meant something to me. Eventually, we stopped overthinking it and just decided to go with it.
That decision stuck.
Where we are today
Today, EightLabs has grown into more than just a name. It represents how we work and what we value — clean design, real functionality, and systems that actually help businesses operate and scale.
Since starting, we've worked with over 25 clients, built full programs and platforms, and have had more than 50,000 users interact with systems we've created. That experience has shaped how we approach every project — focusing not just on how something looks, but how it performs at scale in the real world.
Whether it's a website, a custom system, or a full digital strategy, the goal is always the same: build something that works and looks good doing it.
And it all started with a number, a conversation, a past project that taught valuable lessons, and a late night trying to figure out a name that wasn't already taken.
